4 Easy Steps To Fix A Curly Beard

The Dog Solution

A curly beard is something that not all guys would like to have, however, having a curly beard can be great. It naturally looks thicker and stronger than a straight beard, and that’s something a lot of guys would envy.

However, we appreciate that this killer beard does come with its downsides. It tends to grow in different directions so perhaps looks more messier and it’s a lot harder to maintain. Having a patchy curly beard does also look like you’ve not given a damn about your facial hair.

There are two things you could do with a curly beard. Embrace it, or straighten it. If you do choose to embrace it then most of our tips about managing a beard apply, such as washing and moisturising.

If you want a curly beard fix then look no further. There are a few things that you could do to solve this problem, so here are a few tips and tricks that will help you to keep your curly beard straight.

WASH IT

Let’s start with the basics: the first step to any beard grooming routine is keeping it clean.  Get in among that man mane and give it a good wash. When hair is soft and healthy, it’s easier to manage. With facial hair you have to approach washing it in a different way from your head hair. Don’t wash it every day as this will strip the beard of its natural oils and this is the cause of a dry beard. Dry beards can become damaged, stiffen and then become curly.

You will need to use a beard wash and beard conditioner up to 3 times a week (simply wash it with water the rest of the week). Don’t use regular hair shampoo as they are designed to remove the natural sebum oil from your scalp.

HOW TO WASH AND CONDITION YOUR BEARD

  • Dampen your beard with warm water
  • If you’re using beard wash, pump it three times in the palm of your hand. If you’re using beard soap, get the soap wet and rub it in your hands until you get a nice lather
  • Apply the wash or soap to your beard, working it in with your fingers so you’ve got a lather
  • Rinse off thoroughly with warm water
  • Repeat the above with the beard conditioner.
  • Dry your beard with a towel by patting it and not rubbing vigorously

Now you could even dry it with a hair dryer. There’s nothing wrong with that and will help to start straightening your curly beard. However, don’t forget to put it on the cold or warm setting and definitely not the hot setting.

MOISTURISE

Once you wash your beard your next step should be applying beard oil to moisturise that precious mane of yours. As we mentioned, a dry beard can be one cause of a curly beard. The simple step of applying beard oil will restore moisture and shine to your hair, making it softer and ready for straightening curly beards.

HOW TO APPLY BEARD OIL

  • Apply three pumps of oil to the palm of your hand and rub your hands together
  • Massage the oil into the skin and beard
  • Take a moment to admire the brilliance of the oil

APPLY BEARD BALM

While applying beard oil will moisturise your beard it won’t have enough strength to keep that curly beard straight. That’s where a bit of beard balm comes into play. Beard balm helps add volume to make your facial hair look thicker. Also, if you’ve got thin, patchy or unruly hair, balm will help your beard look fuller, while making it easier to style.

HOW TO APPLY BEARD BALM

  • Put a pea-sized amount of balm into the palm of your hand and warm it up by rubbing your hands together
  • Work it into your beard
  • Shape your beard using your fingers

After applying the beard beard, you will now need to comb your beard through to help straighten it and get the product in.

USE THE RIGHT TOOLS

If you have a curly beard,  the final step in the process for straightening a curly beard is to use a comb and a brush, things you won’t be able to go without. That’s why it’s important to choose the right beard accessories. For best results use a beard comb because it’s going to be more effective untangling your curls.

The washing and conditioning would have helped remove the tangles and knots, however, there may still be a few remaining. Therefore when using the comb don’t be aggressive which could damage your hair and skin. You will then need to move onto a wild boar bristle brush to help spread the products in the beard and to make sure the hairs are pointing in the right direction.

Now you might even want to use a straightening iron and again there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact if you do then a straightening iron can do it without the products above, however, the steps above keep your beard clean and hydrated.

Last but not least, get your beard trimmed every few weeks. It will help to keep your beard looking neat and healthy.

CONCLUSION

Straightening curly beards can take some time, however, following the steps above not only kicks those curls into touch but also provides the basis for healthy hair and skin. Whether it’s a comb or straightener, having curly facial hair can be a thing of the past.
